The Art and Science of Audio Video Technologies

Harley-Davidson Museum

Milwaukee, WI-

"There are two types of people in the world... those that ride a Harley, and those who are jealous." This quote from a visitor pretty much sums up the mission statement for the Harley-Davidson museum. CED was chosen to design and install a myriad of unique exhibits dedicated to the Harley-Davidson motorcycle. From the beginning in 1915 with "Serial #1" through today, Harley-Davidson has had the foresight to pull and archive at least one motorcycle from the production line each year. The extensive archive is housed and on display at the museum!

The Harley-Davidson Museum is a vast open space filled with the sights, sounds, and history of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The space contains several media exhibits and computer interactives. The exhibits are controlled via a complex AMX control system with centralized audio and video.

The Bridge exhibit is composed of six 46" LCD screens (mounted to the underside of a road) that display what is at the heart of Harley-Davidson...its riders. The Buyback exhibit is a three-screen video wall that tells the story of how Harley-Davidson bought the company back from AMF Corporation in the 1980s.

There are also multiple projections throughout the space, including a projection onto a replica of an old board track racing track and two synchronized projections of the past and present Harley-Davidson engines. At the end of the tour, the visitor gets to experience riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the Experience Gallery - a theater with two high definition synchronized projections onto a 40' x 12' screen, and interactive exhibit are where the visitor can take their picture on a Harley motorcycle and explore the current model selection.

Beautifully produced media from Batwin+Robin is displayed throughout the museum in interesting formats. Needless to say, this was an enjoyable and informative project from beginning to end!
