WaterWorks Museum

The Louisville Water Tower

Louisville, KY-

2015 Outstanding Education

  Exhibit Initiative for History

The WaterWorks Museum is a new addition to the Louisville Water Company's riverside pumping station on the Ohio River. The museum is rich with 150 years of Louisville Water Company history and offers a fun learning experience for kids of all ages.

The ambient sounds in the space make the visitor feel as if they have walked into a working pumping station. Add to that a large-scale projection of archived footage showing how men ran the pumping station decades ago, and one really gets the feeling of how laborious it was to provide clean water to the city. The space also features a small theater area where the visitor can select from multiple stories about the Louisville Water Company.
